Acheulian ToolsWith the rise of Homo erectus we saw the creation of the Acheulian stone tools beginning around 1.8 million years ago. These tools were first made and used in Africa, but are named after a suburb in northern France where find were first made. Acheulian tools were made were made using stones with better fracture characteristics such as chalcedony or flint. By working the stones on both sides, shaper tools could be produced. These tools were usually much bigger than the Oldowan variety and could be used to cut wood from trees, or remove hides and meat from animals.
